My name is Kirsten and I am the mom of three extremely active boys, ages 11, 9, and 7.  When my husband and I were married, we went on a whirlwind honeymoon of 13 cities in 8 countries over 23 days.  Thus began our love of travel.  We logged many miles and many journeys in the first five years of married life.  We promised each other, that once we had children, the traveling would continue.  We took our oldest on his first adventure to England, Scotland, and Wales when he was nine months old and we have never looked back.  We have learned many things about travel and ourselves along the way, having to make changes for each child, from the fussy middle one, to the youngest one with a peanut and tree nut allergy.  So many people ask “How do you do it?”.  Well, there is no magic formula, but I will share what we have learned. Hopefully this will inspire others to give their children the gift of travel.

  1. We love traveling too … it’s been a while since we’ve taken a big trip, and we’re thinking about doing a cross-country style journey with the kids this summer heading to the Grand Canyon. So much potential!

  2. Kirsten, your blog has been helpful already! We got the pacsafe backpack and it is fabulous. We have been in Spain for a week now…looking forward to your ideas for Barcelona next! To pass along a few things that work for us: I carry a MadLibs at all times. It entertains the troops while waiting for food at a restaurant and, if you are in a different country, you can insist that the kids supply words in the new language (Spanish for us). I also purchase and wrap a new item to give to the kids on the plane. It is usually an activity book with stickers and the wrapping adds to the fun.
